Templo Betel Assembly of God Church will celebrate its 50th Anniversary Saturday, Sept. 4 and Sunday, Sept. 5 at 628 E. Richard Ave.

The Rev. Sam Lopez of Christ Worship Center in Laredo will give the sermon at 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 4.

The Rev. Gary Jones, president of Gulf Latin District Assemblies of God in San Antonio will give the sermon at 9 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 5.

Templo Betel’s first building was built in 1917.

The present building was built on Sept. 5, 1960 and will be 50 years old on Sept. 5, 2010.

The Rev. Lopez contributed to the original construction of Templo Betel in 1960 before beginning his own tenure in ministry for Christ Worship Center based in Laredo.

Pastor Manuel Garza of Templo Betel has been the pastor for 45 years.
