SCHOLARSHIPS AWARDED — Chamberlain Masonic Lodge presented the annual Mirabeau B. Lamar scholarship awards and gold medals on Friday night, March 12. Mirabeau B. Lamar was the second President of the Republic of Texas and named the ‘Father of Education’ in Texas for his bill of 1839, which provided land for public schools and the University of Texas and Texas A&M systems. Each year one student is selected from each of the four area high schools for the awards, based on academics, social awareness, leadership, citizenship and concern for others. The scholarship is a $500 award for college. This year, the four students selected were: Cody Landeros (Academy High School), Claudia Perez (Bishop High School), Bryan N. Garcia (H.M. King High School) and Wade Moore (Kaufer High School). Pictured are front row, Mr. Rene Landeros, Cody Landeros, Bryan N.
