Santa Gertrudis Independent School District had numerous boys and girls basketball players recently selected for the All-District 32-A team.

GIRLS

Ashley Ritter won a share of District 32-A’s Most Valuable Player award.

“Ashley, our starting point guard for four years, was able to lead us into the playoffs,” Head Coach Martin Gonzalez said. “She was a real leader on our team as far as getting the ball across the court and usually played every minute of every game.”

Kacee Ritter and Callee Borchardt were selected for the first all-district team.

“Both of these girls played very well for us this season,” Gonzalez said. “Kacee was consistently able to post well for us, scored several doubledoubles (10 points and 10 rebounds) and came alive in district. Callee was a shooting guard on the wing who also averaged 10 points per game during district.”

Lauren Prukop and Ashley Flores made the second all-district roster.

“Lauren and Ashley averaged five to six points per game,” Gonzalez said. “That is what made us tough on the court, the fact that we had so many girls who could score plenty of points and Lauren and Ashley really helped us out with rebounding.”

Carla Noel was named as the district’s Newcomer of the Year.

“Carla was able to step in early in the season and play a major role,” Gonzalez said. “She started for us and became very big defensively with her quickness and also managed to average 10 points per game.”

Receiving Honorable Mention were Alicia Flores and Bailey Cernosek.

“Alicia and Bailey were able to come off the bench and give us quality minutes which allowed us to rest some of the other girls,” Gonzalez said. “Because of that we were able to use a steady rotation of players.”

Prukop, Kacee Ritter and Kayla Canales made the alldistrict academic team.

This season Academy’s girls easily won the 32-A title with a 10-0 division record, went 27-16 overall and advanced all the way to the area round of the playoffs.

BOYS

Raul Garcia was named to the first All-District 32-A team. Christopher Ainsworth and Eddie Resendez were voted into the second all-district team. Receiving Honorable Mention were Emilio Martinez and Carlos Valdez. Connor DeLaney made the all-district academic team.

Matthew Gonzalez was named Coach of the Year.

Academy’s boys basketball team won the 32-A crown with a 9-1 league record, went 20-13 overall and reached the area round of the playoffs.
