Happening at the Robert J. Kleberg Public Library

By Danielle Friend, Children’s Librarian Computer Lab

In order to help parents with small children, we have set aside a computer in the Children’s area for adults. This will allow parents access to the Internet and email, while also allowing them to monitor their children. We have color pages, puzzles, books, and children’s terminals to entertain the children while mom and dad are using the computer.

What did you do

with the books?

For the past month, we have been re-cataloging the children’s department. We have done away with some of our sub-categories in the youngest area in hopes of making things easier to find. We have also entered the titles of our reading level books so that you may search for them by level or title. We know that this change has been a bit confusing while it was going on but we hope that in the long run it is easier.

Pajama Story

Time For Children!!!

Do you hate to get dressed on Saturday? Feel like just sleeping all day? Well stay in your jammies and join us on Saturday April 10th at 10 a.m. for a Story Time to celebrate National Pajama Day!! We will be reading bedtime stories and other fun tales. Cookies will be served afterwards. Well behaved stuffed animals are welcome. All pajamas must be appropriate to wear in public!!

Amnesty Week

Do you know someone who has quit coming to the library because of an overdue book? Maybe they lost a book and are now afraid of the fines if they return it. Pass it on…April 12 – April 17 is Amnesty Week at the Robert J. Kleberg Public Library. We aren’t worried about the reason or the fine. We just want the books back. Check the closets, under the bed, and on the bookshelf for the lost book from last summer and bring it in. Remember, the drop boxes are open after the library closes if you can’t make it by 6 p.m. or are just too embarrassed to bring the books inside.

Unusual Donations

Danielle is looking for some unusual donations to help with this year’s Summer Programs. The Library needs jigsaw puzzles (missing pieces are ok), playing cards, clothing buttons, and broken crayons. She will also need approximately 60 empty clear plastic 20 oz bottles with lids. (Water or lemonade bottles work excellent). This year’s craft projects will focus on recycling. There is a poster at the Children’s Desk with other items that we need small amounts of. All donations are appreciated.

General Reminders

1. The Robert J. Kleberg Library welcomes all children of all ages. We do not mind if your child stays in the children’s are of the library while you look for a book; however, by state law, children under the age of 8 must have an adult in the library with them.

2. Please do not just drop off your children for the day. The Library does not have the necessary staff to be able to monitor your child at all times and is not responsible if your child leaves the property.

3. The Robert J. Kleberg Library closes at 6 p.m. on Tuesday through Friday and at 1 p.m. on Saturday. Please make necessary arrangements for your children to be picked up by closing time.
