Lady Brahmas win league opener
      H.M. King High School’s varsity and junior varsity softball teams kicked off their District 31-4A schedule by defeating Laredo Cigarroa on Monday. The Lady Brahma varsity squad ripped Cigarroa 13- 1. Emily Ochoa, the winning pitcher, struck out six batters and only allowed three hits. H.M. King racked up a total of 10 hits.

      BADGERS Bishop High School’s junior varsity baseball team hosts Refugio at 6 p.m. on Monday. The Badger j.v. and freshman baseball teams compete at a tournament in Hebbronville Thursday through Saturday. Bishop’s varsity baseball team competes at a tournament in Falfurrias Thursday through Saturday.

Local student participates in Texas Elks Free Throw Contest
      Local student Charlie Gonzalez of Gillett Intermediate School participated as the South District Champion in the 2010 Texas Elks State Association (TESA) Hoop Shoot® Free Throw Contest held in Dallas on Saturday, Feb. 20. Gonzalez competed against eight other District champions from around the state of Texas in the 10-11 year old boys division.

Badger basketball season ends in 95-90 shocker
      The Bishop Badgers varsity basketball season ended with a 95-90 heartbreaking loss to the Cotulla Cowboys in the bidistrict playoff round on Tuesday, Feb. 23 in Three Rivers. It was like watching an NBA all-star game, all offense and very little defense. The Badgers gained the early advantage, nearly going up by 20 points during the opening period.
