Robert M. Shamel, 81, of Austin, died March 3, 2010 in Austin.

Shamel was born on May 6, 1928, in Salisbury, N.C. to Mr. and Mrs. Fred Shamel.

He was a retired air craft mechanic and a United States Air Force Vietnam veteran.

Survivors include one daughter, Roxanne (Kevin) Hutchinson of Austin; one son, Robert (Karen) Shamel of Bellingham, Wash.; one brother, John (Shirley) Shamel of Anderson, S.C.; three grandchildren and two step grandchildren.

A funeral service was held at 2 p.m. March 6 at Santa Gertrudis Memorial Cemetery with NAS Kingsville Chaplain Mark Haley officiating.

Burial followed at Santa Gertrudis Memorial Cemetery.
