Gertrude Irene Hickman Gertrude Irene Hickman, 71, of Kingsville, died Feb. 25, 2010, in Corpus Christi.

She was born on March 7, 1938, in Taft, to Gottfried Krieg Jr. and Minnie Juergens Krieg.

Hickman was a devoted volunteer at Lamar Elementary School where she helped three generations of students learn to read.

She was awarded the Volunteer of the Year Award for her dedicated service to Lamar Elementary School.

Survivors include her daughter, Debbie (Terry) Schlomach of Kingsville; two sons, David (Olivia) Hickman and Douglas (Julie) Hickman of Kingsville; one brother, Harold (Elmina) Krieg of Taft; three sisters, Lillian (John) Heese of Monet, Mo.; Norine (Billy) Bernsen of Clarkwood, Jeanette (Bobby) Zarosky of Franklin; four grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

Visitation will take place from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. March 6 at the Turcotte- Piper Mortuary.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. March 6 at the Turcotte- Piper Mortuary Chapel with the Rev. Sheldon Johnson officiating.

A graveside service will take place at 1 p.m. March 8 at Chamberlain Cemetery in Kingsville.
