Kingsville Tri-City Retired Teachers Association announces scholarships

The Kingsville Tri- City Retired Teachers Association (KTC-RTA) will be distributing scholarship applications to area schools for students wishing to enter the teaching profession.

Applicants must have been accepted to Texas A&M University-Kingsville for the Fall of 2010, majoring in education.

Students should contact their school counselors for applications.

KTC-RTA first established its scholarship fund in 2001 in memory of Miss Ruby Gustavson, a long-time educator and principal at Flato Elementary School and a charter member of KTC-RTA.

Initially, most funds were generated through a cookbook sale. Currently, funds are generated through memorial donations, silent auctions and plant sales at every meeting.

The KTC-RTA Scholarship Committer is composed of Amparo Quintanilla, Chairman; Norma Olivares, Secretary/ Treasurer; Gino Castillo and Dr. Julia Smith, members; Roy Eshom and Pete De La Garza, Custodians exofficio.

KTC-RTA will meet at 2:30 p.m. March 15, 2010, at the Kingsville ISD Administration Building.

All retired teachers, administrators, support personnel and retired/ rehired personnel are invited to attend, as well as those planning to retire by May.

Dues are $35 for state and local to join Kingsville Tri-City Retired Teachers Association.
