Stallings speaks to coaching staff
Gene Stallings speaks to the TAMUK coaching staff.
Gene Stallings, current member of the Board of Regents for the Texas A&M University System and former college and professional football coach, spoke today to the members of the Texas A&M-Kingsville athletic department at a luncheon.
Stallings spoke on behalf of the A&M System Board of Regents as part of his tour of all 11 colleges and universities within the A&M System. His two main points to the Javelina athletic staff were, “Stay within your budget” and “Do not get put on NCAA probation.”
While the two points are simple enough, Stallings used anecdotes from his days as a coach at Texas A&M, Alabama and the Dallas Cowboys as excellent teaching points. Stallings led Alabama to the 1992 Bowl Coalition National Championship, but mentioned that he felt more sense of accomplishment when he watched his players walk across the stage to get a college degree.
Stallings, a resident of Paris, Texas, has close ties to current Texas A&MKingsville president. Dr. Steven H. Tallant attended the same high school as Stallings.
