In the “Responsible Parents” session presented by the much sought after speaker Dr. Betsy Geddes, parents learned how to build and support self-concept, share the thinking, control, and use equal shares of empathy and logical consequences.

Dr. Geddes is known for her humorous yet practical approach to dealing with children.

Her video Practical Applications of Love and Logic in Today’s Classroom is a favorite in schools across America.

In the Teen Pregancy and Support session presented by Judy Felder, consultant for ESC2, participants learned about the current status of teenage pregnancies in terms of trends, and economical, psychological, and educational implications.

The challenges and consequences of teen births on mother, father and child were all discussed.

The “Early Childhood Education” training, provided by ESC 2 consultant Karen Turner, assisted parents in viewing their role in school readiness.

Skills and social development needed for school success was discussed as well as the national and state movement for improving the services and programs for young children and families. Resources were also shared.

Approximately 50 participants and families from Kingsville Independent School District attended.

Each enjoyed mariachi music, a barbeque lunch, and door prizes as a culminating activity.

Cindy Hernandez, conference planning committee member and KISD Parent Facilitator, was pleased with the participation.

“Our school district invited everyone to attend on a first come, first served basis with announcements in the Kingsville Record Newspaper, campus bulletins, school district newsletter, and announcements.

All elementary, intermediate, and middle school parents who had never attended were given first priority.

The sessions were informative for our parents but the keynote address on ‘Parenting: The Most Important Thing You Will Ever Do,’ hit home with many them,” Hernandez said.
