The H.M. King Tennis Team returned back from another successful tennis tournament held Feb. 5-6 hosted by Falfurrias.
The varsity girls’ tennis team placed second in girls’ doubles.
The senior duo of Rachel Rubio and Hope Castaneda has placed in all three tournaments they entered this season, according to H.M. King Tennis Coach Ed Gonzales.
“This weekend had more impact than the past tournaments,” Gonzales said.
The team picked up a direct win over Tuloso-Midway girls doubles team which was considered one of the top four teams in the district.
The finals against top seed Calallen was very close in score.
“The team is improving every tournament as a doubles team. I saw improvement on their doubles strategy and tactics. Their slot selection is starting to get them out of trouble when the pressure is on,” Gonzales said.
In boys singles Aaron Gerragauch placed third and improved his win and loss record to 16-4.
“Aaron is improving in singles competition and as the season continues, I am expecting to see him in demanding competitive matches, matches that will all pay off when district rolls around in April,” Gonzales said.
