Bishop chamber dinner is Thursday

The Bishop Chamber of Commerce will hold its 63rd Annual Dinner for Thursday at 7 p.m. in the Bishop School Cafetorium on Sixth Street.

Outgoing President Christina Gutierrez will act as master of ceremonies and will recognize retiring directors and remark on achievements for 2009.

Incoming president, Michael Engel will introduce officers and directors for 2010 and will outline his vision for Bishop for 2009. A Bishop Centennial update will be presented by Dr. Tanya Lawhon.

The keynote speaker will be Frank Paul, a BHS alumnus and co-owner of Golfsmith International, Inc. He will speak on “Memories of Growing up in Bishop and My Venture into the Business World.”

Dinner music will be provided by pianist Midgie Miller. Soloists, representing past graduating classes of BHS, will be 2009 Bishop graduate Jonathan Morales, 1971 Bishop graduate Rose Mary Samudio, and 1976 Bishop graduate Sammy Trujillo.

The Rev. Melvin Antonio, pastor of St. John Lutheran Church, will give the invocation and benediction.

Awards to be presented include Outstanding Citizen of 2009, presented by Myrtis Lindsey, the 2008 recipient, and the prestigious Lifetime Service Award, presented by Susan Morales, 2008 recipient.

A special president’s award will also be presented.

Bishop Centennial items will be available for purchase in the cafeteria, starting at 6:15 p.m.

Tickets are $15 each and may be purchased from any director of the chamber, or at the chamber office, 213 E. Main, phone 584-2214.
