The internationally-acclaimed Harlem Ambassadors basketball team will visit Kingsville for a benefit game at Texas A&M University-Kingsville SPEC GYM on Wednesday, Feb. 10 at 5 p.m.

The Harlem Ambassadors offer a unique brand of “Harlem-style” basketball, featuring high-flying slam dunks, dazzling ball-handling tricks and hilarious comedy routines.

“At our shows, we want the kids to know that they’re part of our team too,” Coach Ladè Majic said. “We invite as many kids as we can to come sit on the bench, have a front row seat during the show, and get involved in all of the fun stuff we do.”

The Ambassadors will play two quarters against one of NAS Kingsville’s intramural basketball teams, and two quarters against an NAS Kingsville-City of Kingsville VIP “All Star” squad that will include a number of command and city officials, some with basketball experience and some without.

The VIP team will consist of Capt. Phil Waddingham, Capt. Mark Brooks, CDR Gerry Murphy, Lt. Col Terrence Latorre, CDR John Kelsey, CDR Ed Harshany, LCDR Dave Anderson and Master Chief Charlie Ratliff from NASK. Also on the team are Kingsville VIPs Mayor Sam Fugate, Sherriff Ed Mata, TAMUK president Dr. Steve Talant, TAMUK’s Ken Oliver, and KISD superintendent Emilio Castro.

The Ambassadors have worked extensively with organizations such as Habitat for Humanity, Boys & Girls Clubs, Big Brothers Big Sisters and American Red Cross, as well as Rotary, Lions and Kiwanis clubs in communities throughout the U.S. They perform more than 200 shows a year. Those shows have helped raise millions of dollars – an accomplishment of which Ambassadors’ president Dale Moss is very proud.

“It feels good to be able to provide quality entertainment and create memories that the fans will take with them,” Moss explained.

For a free ticket to the game, stop by the Kingsville Chamber of Commerce, 635 E. King Ave., call 361- 592-6438, or NASK ITT Office, call 361-516-6449.
