Bishop Elementary Gifted and Talented students from the fourth grade decided to give back to those in need. According to Bishop Elementary teacher Sammy Gutierrez, they wanted to help the people from Haiti by asking for donations from students and staff at the campus.
They called this the “Hope for Haiti” fund. The GT students produced canisters and boxes to set up in each classroom from fourth grade to sixth grade.
Gutierrez says each morning started with an announcement by a GT student reminding all students to give what they could in the form of donations.

Bishop Elementary students gave up lunchtime snacks or purchasing an after school snack at the PTO store to donate anything they could.
Some students even brought out all their “piggybank” money and several donated up to $20 for the “Hope for Haiti” fund.
The fundraiser lasted one week and the students collected a total of $441.53 to be donated to the American Red Cross.
The fourth grade teachers would like to thank everyone at Bishop Elementary, family members and the community for giving so willingly.
