The Bishop Lady Badgers varsity basketball squad beat the Hebbronville Lady Longhorns 50-31 this past Tuesday in a Hoops for Hope game that honored cancer survivors and memorialized those who lost the battle to the disease.
“It was a great success, with nearly 300 Hoops for Hope T-shirts sold,” Bishop Lady Badger Head Coach Sherry Wilson said.
The proceeds from the T-shirt sale went to the American Cancer Society along with over $100 donated at the game.
Wilson plans on participating in the Hoops for Hope event annually.
Pink was the color of choice as a pink basketball was used while the referees used pink whistles and pink shoe laces during the game.
Bishop players wore hot pink socks, while the Lady Longhorns wore pink shoe laces.
The bleachers were a sea of pink as many fans participated by wearing pink T-shirts and used pink thundersticks donated by the Hebbronville coach to cheer on both teams.
With the win, the Lady Badgers clinched the district championship sporting an 11-0 district record with the final district game against Santa Rosa slated for Tuesday, Feb. 9 in Santa Rosa.
The Lady Badgers earned a first round bye in the playoffs and will play either Feb. 18 or 19 in the second round against an opponent to be determined.
