RISD AD astonished by UIL rezoning
      Perry Graves received his first Jack-in-the-Box surprise, a few weeks after being designated as Riviera Independent School District’s athletic director, when the University Interscholastic League released its statewide redistricting of athletic zones this past Monday. Class 2A was split into two separate divisions as a way of leveling the playing field.

Lady Badgers corral Lady Longhorns 50-31
Clinch district championship with win
      The Bishop Lady Badgers varsity basketball squad beat the Hebbronville Lady Longhorns 50-31 this past Tuesday in a Hoops for Hope game that honored cancer survivors and memorialized those who lost the battle to the disease. “It was a great success, with nearly 300 Hoops for Hope T-shirts sold,” Bishop Lady Badger Head Coach Sherry Wilson said.

Kingsville’s Boxing Champions Preparing for Competition
      There was some serious action in Kingsville Monday evening, Feb. 1. The 12th Street Gym has two boxing champions in training for matches later in February. Two sparing matches were arranged as part of their training preparation. Oscar Cantú will be competing Feb. 18-20 at the Golden Gloves Tournament in Corpus Christi.

      BADGER BASKETBALL Bishop High School’s varsity, junior varsity and freshman boys basketball teams host Santa Rosa at 5 p.m., 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. All three teams visit Donna Idea Academy at 5 p.m., 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
