Brahmas’ Hrncir talks about the future

Kingsville Independent School District Athletic Director and Head Football Coach Andrew Hrncir related the reason why he is ending his tenure, on June 15 after resigning last Thursday. Hrncir cited personal family matters as the catalyst for his resignation.
“It was a very tough decision, me and my wife sat down and started talking about our future; what we wanted to do,” Hrncir said.
“It is just one of those things we felt was best for our family right now which is for me to resign. That way I give KISD the rest of the year to findmy replacement.”
News of Hrncir’s decision was a tough pill to swallow for H.M. King’s student athletes.
“It was tough; it is harder on the kids especially for those in the varsity football level, and a lot of them have asked me why; kids see it differently, but they will move on,” Hrncir said.
“We have all been through it as coaches and players; coaches come and go, but it is the program and the community who need to buy into the next guy, and I have a lot of confidence that these football players will have a heck of a season next year and this athletic program will continue to grow.”
Hrncir currently does not have another job lined up.
“I don’t yet; it is one of those things where everyone tells you should not resign without another job waiting for you, but I do not have one yet,” Hrncir said. “I have a lot of faith that something will come up, so we will just take it day by day and see what happens.”
KISD named Hrncir as AD in March. Initially designated as an interim athletic director, Hrncir’s tenure began after former sports administrator Rory Minter - who recently settled his federal lawsuit versus the district - resigned on July 10, 2008.
“I love this job, I love the community of Kingsville and going to work every day,” Hrncir said. “We tried to build something and make it better, I enjoyed it and most everybody knows I was at every single game. I don’t care if it was basketball, softball or soccer; I did not miss a game and I saw our kids and program growing and that is exciting.”
Hrncir’s football teams went 12-18 in his three years as head coach.
“Being a football head coach was a blast,” Hrncir said. “I love the kids here; they’re great, work hard every day and that is something I am really going to miss, but I will never forget Kingsville.”
With four and a half months remaining until his departure, Hrncir is intent on finishing what he started. “We are just going to show up to work and try to keep growing, find something each day to improve in this program,” Hrncir said. “That is all you can do coming from an athletic director standpoint. We have a lot of sports coming up this spring and some kids are in their offseason programs and we will continue going to work as if I was coming back; you always want to leave a place better than when you got there, and there is no doubt in my mind that this athletic program is on the rise from when I took this position so I am excited to watch Kingsville grow.” KISD Superintendent Emilio Castro said the district would try to post the athletic director position this week.
