With Governor Rick Perry’s proclamation declaring January as School Board Recognition Month to help highlight the contributions of dedicated men and women who take the time to care about local schools, the Driscoll Independent School District joins districts across the state in thanking board members for voluntarily tackling the enormous job of governing local school districts.
Driscoll ISD faculty and staff held a reception Tuesday, Jan. 19 in the school library to honor their school trustees. The trustees were given corsages to wear and were presented with gifts at the reception.
“As advocates for our children, school board members face difficult challenges; these local citizens — our neighbors — are elected by the community to make critical decisions that directly affect the future of our youth,” Cynthia M. Garcia, Driscoll superintendent, said.
“They work tirelessly, devoting countless hours to help ensure a quality education that will lead our students to success.”
“Our school board members are a vital link between the community and the classroom. They bear responsibility for the annual budget, the students, the employees, and the campuses. Their job is not an easy one, but they have a commitment to serve their community and ensure that all students are given every opportunity to excel through education. Help us show appreciation to these board members for giving of themselves and caring so much about every child enrolled in our schools,” Garcia said.
The Driscoll Trustees are: Cynthia Lopez, Gloria Olivarez, Veronica Ramon, Louisa Rivera, Johanna Schubert, and Lala Zuniga.
The faculty, staff, students, and parents of Driscoll salute these dedicated, hard working women for their tireless commitment to the betterment of our schools. Thank you, trustees!
