Lisa Neely speaks at Community Service Department January meeting
The Community Service Department of the Woman’s Club held their January meeting with Lisa Neely as the speaker.
Neely has been the archivist for the King Ranch for over 20 years.
Neely provided the members with an excellent slide presentation.
The slides portrayed Kleberg County’s rich history. She began stories about Richard King in the year 1847 and moved on to the present day.
Henrietta King, Richard’s wife made numerous gifts of land and funds to Kingsville. Of course, the coming of the railroad opened up trade in Kingsville in 1904. The members guessed many of the locations of buildings in some of the slides.
Some of these structures are no longer standing due to hurricanes and fires. Our cities streets are named after these first business men who settled here.
The ladies were familiar with the old shops and buildings, their parents and grandparents played a part in the history of Kingsville.
The business meeting followed with Jean Claire Turcotte presiding.
