Badgers fall to Santa Rosa 79-33

The Bishop Badgers boys varsity basketball team lost their first district game of the season with a 79-33 loss to the Santa Rosa Warriors on Friday, Jan. 15 in Santa Rosa.

The Badgers hold a 3-1 district record after the heartbreaker and a 10-10 overall record.

With the win over the Badgers, the Warriors hold sole possession of first place with a team that returned all five starters from a State Semi- Finalist team in 2009.

Leading the Badgers was A.J. Gaona with seven points, four rebounds, three steals, one block and one assist.

Also contributing to the Bishop effort were Jacob Beltran with six points, eight rebounds and three steals; Robert Gaona with six points and three rebounds; Eric Barrientes with five points, four rebounds and one steal; Grant Michalk with four points and four rebounds; Dave Gonzalez with two points, four rebounds, one steal and one assist; Johnathan Villarreal with two points, two rebounds and one steal.

The Badgers hosted Donna-Idea Academy on Tuesday, Jan. 19, game statistics not available at press time.

Badgers drop non-district match to Banquete Bulldogs 71-47

The Bishop Badgers varsity boys basketball squad hosted the Banquete Bulldogs in a nondistrict game on Tuesday, Jan. 12, falling 71-47.

Bishop was led by A.J. Gaona with 13 points, 10 rebounds and two steals in the loss, followed by Grant Michalk with 10 points, five rebounds and one assist.

Also chipping in to the Badger effort were Dave Gonzalez with eight points, six assists, two rebounds, one steal and one block; Jacob Ortegon with four points, three rebounds and two blocks; Johnathan Villarreal with four points, two assists, one rebound and one steal; Brandon Haddy with three points, one rebound and one steal; Robert Gaona with four rebounds, two assists and one point; and Eric Barrientes with two rebounds and one steal.
