Junior Livestock show dedicated to Glynn D. Hill
JGlynn D. Hill
The 59th annual Kleberg-Kenedy County Junior Livestock Show is dedicated to educator and youth advocate Glynn D. Hill.
The junior livestock show gets underway Friday, Jan. 29th with the traditional junior livestock show parade and dance and concludes with the annual junior livestock show auction Saturday, Feb. 6 at the J.K. Northway Exposition Center in Dick Kleberg Park.
As a 4-H member growing up, Hill, a native of Winter, showed swine, lambs, poultry and had many champions in county, area and state shows.
He served as president and held other offices in the local Winters 4-H Club. He was president of the first Runnels County 4-H Council where following his senior year he was selected outstanding 4-H member of Runnels County.
Glynn received his degree in Vocational Education from Texas A&M University and taught for 13 years.
Under his supervision, many of his students won awards in judging and showing their animals in many livestock shows.
After becoming a secondary school principal for 18 years, he continued to work with students and their show projects. He was president and member of the FFA Booster Club for 6 years, president and member of 4-H Booster Club for 12 years and was a 4-H adult leader for 12 years in Bishop and Del Valle.
Even though he lived in Pflugerville and Austin for seven years, he stayed involved with turkey exhibitors for the Nueces County Junior Livestock Show where they won grand or reserve champion.
Since retiring and moving to Baffin Bay, he has became involved with Kleberg, Kenedy and Nueces County children and parents with goats, lambs, chickens, rabbits and turkey projects.
He also travels throughout Texas to scout and purchase Boer goats for exhibitors who cannot find high quality animals in the area for local and state shows.
Glynn and his wife, Marilyn, also raise a small herd of high quality Boer goats for exhibitors to show in county and state shows. They raised reserve champion for the past two years at the Kleberg-Kenedy Junior Livestock Show and many of their goats have made the sale in state shows. They also hold many clinics on caring and showing of goats for parents and exhibitors and the clinics continue to grow in number each year.
They even have a play pen in their home for those goats that are most seriously ill that need more attention and care.
Even though Glynn’s body does not work as good as it did five years ago before his surgery, he refuses to slow down or give up his love — working with children and animals.
Glynn served 26 years in the Military Reserve as a National Guard Company Commander.
He also serves the community through the Lions Club where he has been active for over 19 years, including time he served in Austin.
He is a member of the First United Methodist Church and serves as a Board of Trustee.
He also served as Chairman of the Child Development Center from 2006 to 2008.
He has served as assistant superintendent for the Goat Division since 2002.
Hill is always ready to help someone in need.
