Moore makes all-state academic team

By Rey Sifuentes Jr.

Wade Moore Wade Moore Riviera-Kaufer High School Senior Wade Moore was recently named to the Texas High School Coaches Association Academic All-State Team.

“This to me is a very important award,” former Riviera-Kaufer Independent School District Athletic Director Arturo de la Rosa said earlier this week. “This award tells me that yes we work hard on the field and in the classroom also. To get this award, you must fulfill a list of requirements.”

De la Rosa mentioned the prerequisites a high school football player needs to make the academic all-state list.

“An athlete must have an overall grade point average of 92 or above, starting from the time he is a freshman and up to the first six weeks of his senior year,” De la Rosa said. “They must also be a senior in good standing with their team at the time of their nomination and must also be of good moral character. Wade fulfills all of these requirements, is a fine young gentleman, an excellent student and a great athlete. I am very proud of Wade and wish him the best in whatever he does upon graduating.”

Ranked number one in his class, Moore has developed physically by leaps and bounds since he first donned football pads at De la Paz Middle School. Moore finished his career with the Seahawks as an exceptional quarterback and linebacker.

“On the field, Wade was what I called a Jack of all Trades,” De la Rosa said. “He played all over the field, gave everything he had and is a real go-getter. In junior high he was not very fast or strong, but he really dedicated himself to the weight room when he became a sophomore, worked hard to get bigger, stronger and faster and I give him a lot of credit on that too.”

Moore and the Seahawks advanced into the playoffs this past season following numerous years without a postseason berth.
