Lindsey N. Lewis
Lindsey N. Lewis has announced his candidacy for Precinct 1 Justice of the Peace in the March 2010 Democratic Primary.
Lewis, a lifetime Kingsville resident, states he believes he has the character, qualifications and commitment needed to be an effective justice of the peace.
“I believe almost 20 years involved in law enforcement in one fashion or another gives me a pretty good idea of the problems facing this entire community, not to mention the challenges our justices of the peace and peace officers face every day,” Lewis said.
He stated he believes the position of Precinct 1 Justice of the Peace will afford him the opportunity to serve and make full use of his education and experience in both the public and private sectors.
“I have the time and ability to dedicate to being an effective J.P. for the people of Precinct 1 and for the citizens of Kleberg County,” he said.
Lewis also said there are many problems to face such as truancy which must be dealt proactively if at all possible.
“I also believe the truancy problem in our community be addressed in a manner that involves important tools such as the Communities in School program which in many cases has not be allowed to function to its fullest potential,” he said.
“As Kingsville and all of Kleberg County continues strong growth, we need committed persons in all positions of local government, including the offices of Justice of the Peace for all precincts,” he said.
He stated he believes a J.P. needs to be fair and should demonstrate compassion to the very citizens who placed him or her in office.
Lewis. an H.M. King High School graduate received a bachelor of business degree in 1996 and graduated Cum Laude from Texas A&M University- Kingsville. He was a member of Delta Mu Delta, the business honor society and also the Delta Signia Pi, the professional fraternity.
His public service as a police officer began in 1985 when he worked for the Kingsville Police Department and advanced to the rank of sergeant.
In addition to completing many training hours advancing his abilities as a peace officer, he was selected to attend the prestigious Law Enforcement Management Institute.
Lewis decided to continue his formal education and begin a career in business and left the Kingsville Police Department in 1992.
After graduating from TAMUK, Lewis immediately began working as a financial advisor with American Express Financial Advisors, now Ameriprise Financial, in Corpus Christi.
He soon became the training manager of the Corpus Christi office and continued training new advisors and working with his own client base until the management position was eliminated from that office.
At that time Lewis and his wife, Cindy, decided to remain in Kingsville to raise their three children. The couple made this decision instead of moving to the Houston area to seek a management position with the company, as Lewis had been encouraged to do so.
He remained involved in law enforcement, and in 1995, Lewis earned his Advanced Peace Officer certification from the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education.
He served as a deputy constable in Kleberg County from 1993 to 2005.
“Even though my career path has taken me from being involved in the community as peace officer, I have a deep desire to be involved and to continue to make a difference in the lives of the citizens of Kleberg County,” Lewis said.
Lewis relocated his office from Corpus Christi to Kingsville in 2001. He shares his office with his father Lonnie Lewis, and his business partner, and Elaine Maca, the retired Kleberg County treasurer.
“It was like coming home, even though, I never moved from Kingsville, I now have my business established and systems in place that make for the efficient running of my practice,” he said.
Lewis maintains his desire to serve his hometown community.
He is a fifth generation resident of Kleberg County. His great great grandfather William A. Wright settled in the Riviera area in 1908 and began farming. His family has been in the area since this time.
“In addition to having deep roots and a strong commitment to this community that is my home,” Lewis said. “I have a unique combination of education, long public service in a related field, and the experience of building and managing my own successful business that I believe combines to make me the best candidate for the position of Precinct 1 Justice of the Peace in Kleberg County.”
