A woman was shot in the chest early New Year’s Day morning after she attempted to work out a dispute with another woman, according to a press statement from Chief of Police Ricardo Torres.

Maria Vela, 25, was in stable condition at Christus Spohn Hospital Memorial in Corpus Christi after being shot around 2 a.m. in the 500 block of W. Huisache Ave.

Jenny Lee Reyes Moore, 22, and Vela had gotten into an argument earlier at a club. Vela met Moore at a residence to work out their disagreement.

According to police reports, it was then that Moore shot Vela and was later arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, a second degree felony.

Moore was taken to the Kleberg County jail with bond set at $250,000.
