2009 PDAP Art Contest winners announced

Riv iera Th e Annua l Palmer Drug Abuse Program’s 2009 Art Contest judging took place at the Kleberg County Courthouse recently.

The event celebrated Red Ribbon Week and PDAP’s commitment to a drug-free community.

The Grand Prize was awarded to Brenda Gonzalez, an eighth grader at Memorial Middle School.

The winner will be presented with the Grand Prize at the 2010 Drug-Free Walk Kickoff luncheon on March 31 2010.

The artwork came from several KISD schools and the panel of judges consisted of local community leaders including County Judge Pete De La Garza, Sheriff Ed Mata, Deputy Valerie Enzenbacher, Mayor Sam Fugate, Professor of Art Dr. Maurice Schmidt, Chief Probation Officer Noel N. Pena, Jr., Senior Officer Rick Salinas, County Attorney Delma Rios, City Commissioner Stan Laskowski, County Commissioner David Rosse, and Lucy Perez, Chamber of Commerce Office Manager.

The winners are as follows:

Gillett

Intermediate School

Fifth grade: first place, Amanda Guevara; second place, Alexis Herrera; and third place, Lupita Cardenas

Sixth grade: first place, Marcella Zepeda; and third place, Tristine Alvarez

LASER School

Sixth grade: second place, Adrian Gomez

Memorial Middle School

Seventh grade: first place, Cristian Gonzalez; second place, Alyssia Gutierrez; and third place, Tatyanna Shelton

Eighth grade: first place, Brenda Gonzalez; second place, Alondra Torres; and third place, Loretta Sendejo

H.M. King High School

Ninth grade: first place, Raul Revales; second place, Oscar Alvarez; and third place, Catlina Guerrero

10th grade: first place, Shae Silvas; second place, Gabriel Hernandez; and third place, Deric Delapaz
