John Edward “Eddie” Moreno has announced his candidacy for the office of Precinct 2 Kleberg County Justice of the Peace in the March 2010 primary.
His intent is to focus on three areas — communication, commitment and cooperation.
“I have lived in precinct 2 for 15 years, and it is my intent to implement communication, commitment and cooperation that are necessary to bring growth and change to our precinct,” Moreno said.
In the area of communication, Moreno plans to develop open relationships with the community, school districts and law enforcement in order to develop a more cohesive, proper application of the law, with consistent and realistic sanctions.
“I want to use my knowledge and experience to solve truancy issues — juvenile concerns and issues that face not only Precinct 2, but the community as a whole,” he said.
“Full time and night availability and accessibility to the citizen’s community, schools and officials will be one of my goals,” Moreno said, referring to his goal of communication.
“Cooperation needs to be bridged between schools, administrators, community and law enforcement. Thinking out of the box and in cooperating innovative practices that will demonstrate fairness and consistency. I will meet with parents and attend school meetings to combat with truancy issues,” Moreno said.
Moreno and his family have been lifetime Kingsville residents.
“I am well aware of the concerns and issues that face this community,” Moreno said.
He stated his experience in the Marine Corp has taught him responsibility, accountability, respect, and producing results for work experience. Moreno is a Purple Heart recipient, Commander of Veterans of Foreign Wars and has participated in numerous law enforcement activities. He has been involved in law enforcement academy training.
He has worked as a long-term teacher substitute with the Kingsville Independent School District. The Moreno family have been long time St. Martin’s Catholic Church members.
Moreno has six children who are John Jr., Patricia, Jaime, Josephine, Augustine, and Kathleen. He has been married to Ode Moreno for 28 years. She serves as the KISD DAEP principal.
