Lexy Webb
Lexy Webb, daughter of Melissa Webb of Kingsville and Larry Webb of Pasadena, was selected as a candidate in the Distinguished Youth of Texas Scholarship and Recognition Program held Nov. 27-29 at the Marriott Rivercenter Hotel in San Antonio.
During the weekend competition, two students were chosen to receive a $1,000 United States Savings Bond and the right to serve as a State Program Titleholder for one year.
In all, more than $5,000 in awards and prizes were presented to various participants.
The Distinguished Youth Program is designed to recognize girls in grades 2-7 who rank high academically and who are leaders in their schools and communities.
The judging criteria used to select the two state titleholders includes the following: Scholastic Record; Service to School & Community; Personality Projection; and Interview.
“This program truly reflects the female youth of the Twenty-First Century.
The candidates are wellrounded, intelligent students.
Sixty percent of the judging involves written resumes, with another significant portion being the interview with the judges,” Program Founder, Warren Alexander, said.
The Program Finals were held Nov. 29 at the Marriott Rivercenter Hotel.
Special Guests featured in the program were the current Little Miss of Texas, Makaylee Steiner of Mineral Wells, and the current Young Miss of Texas, Amber Banfill of Wylie.
They were joined by the reigning Miss Teen of America, Carlene Miller of Alden, N.Y.
Lexy Webb was sponsored by Donald and Dee Strubhart, Gary Torkelson, Larry Webb, Tim and Cindy Strubhart, Route 77 Pizzeria, Mrs. Moreno’s 5th Grade Class, Young’s Pizza, George and Pat Lyford, Bertie Giffen and Complete Custom Construction.
During the competition Lexy won the fifth grade achievement award out of 60 fifth graders at the pageant.
