The Ricardo Yellowjackets senior football team returned to the Coastal Bend Youth Football League Championship Game this past Saturday at Mopac Field.

As you would expect, the atmosphere was loud and exciting. Ricardo was going up against the defending champion Raiders of Kingsville.

From the start of the game, Ricardo came out on fire scoring on the first drive with a 35 yard run by Noel Chacon. Edgar Mireles scored his first of two touchdowns on a 30 yard scamper.

Nick Montoya added the extra point. Adrian Rivera scored the next touchdown and then passed for another connecting with Kevin Hooks. After the Raiders scored making the score 26- 6, Edgar Mireles returned the kick off 70 yards making the final score 33-6.

“The boys did a great job all season long listening and learning what we try to teach them,” said Coach Arturo Chavez. We will try to continue teaching when we start our winter league in January. “We have teams from Premont, Agua Dulce, Riviera, and Ricardo already in the league. If anyone in Kingsville is interested in getting a team into the league, call me at (210) 289- 5829 as soon as possible,” Chavez said.

Seventh graders will not be allowed in this league.
