E.W. Strickland
E.W. “Wayne” Strickland E. W. “Wayne” Strickland, known as “Strick” to many, passed away at the age of 87 on Sunday, November 15, 2009. He was born September 20, 1922 in Pidcoke, Texas to George and Ruth Strickland. He was the fourth of five children.
Strick served his country in the U.S. Navy as an air trafficcontroller during World War II, then went to work for Humble Oil and Refining in June 1945 at Greta Camp. He and Betty moved many times in the next 37 years, but called Kingsville home. Strick retired as a senior field superintendent from the Borregas Production Field in 1982 and served on the Kingsville City Council from 1982-1984. In his younger years, Strick was an active member of the Victoria, Texas Masonic Lodge.
He was a loving husband and father. Strick loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman.
Strick is survived by his wife of 64 years, Betty Jeffers Strickland of Biloxi, Mississippi; son, Jeffery (Karen) Strickland of Corpus Christi, Texas; daughter, Carol (Alan) Williamson of Wiggins, Mississippi; four grandchildren, Nannette Strickland of Austin, Texas, Amanda Erck of Wiggins, Justin Strickland of San Antonio, Texas and Cody Erck of Biloxi; one great-grandchild, Remington Warner of Wiggins; two nephews, Russell (Barbara) Strickland of Mexia, Texas and Richard Bledsoe of Waco, Texas; and two nieces, Glenda Nell (Harry) Hamilton of Mexia and Sherry (Barry) Ballard of Little Rock, Arkansas.
Visitation took place on Tuesday, November 17, 2009 at the Turcotte Piper Mortuary, Kingsville, Texas from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 18, 2009 at the Turcotte Piper Mortuary Chapel with Rev. Charles Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Kingsville at Resthaven Cemetery.
Services are entrusted to Turcotte-Piper Mortuary, 205 General Cavazos Blvd., Kingsville, Texas.
