Lady Badgers selected to 32-2A All-District Volleyball Team
      The Bishop Lady Badgers varsity volleyball squad had a great year, reaching the area playoffs before getting knocked out by Vanderbilt Industrial three games to two. In what was supposed to be a rebuilding year, the Lady Badgers earned the District 32-2A championship and named Bi-District champions with a bye in the first round of the playoffs.

Seahawks soar past Badgers 35-10
      The Bishop Badgers and Riviera Seahawks varsity football teams went onto the field with each vying for the final playoff spot in district 32-2A this past Friday in Riviera. The Badgers struck quickly, scoring on the first play from scrimmage as sophomore running back Jacob Beltran scampered 77 yards for a Bishop touchdown.

Look who’s in the playoffs!
      For the first time since 2004, Riviera-Kaufer’s varsity football team secured the third and final District 32-2A playoff spot after the Seahawks beat Bishop 35-10 last Friday. Kaufer (5-5 overall, 2-3 district) faces Three Rivers at West Oso at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Head Coach Arturo de la Rosa said his platoon succeeded on Friday by never turning their intensity down.

Seasons end for area football teams
      H.M. King High School’s varsity football team finished its season 4-6 overall and 3-4 in District 31-4A after losing to Flour Bluff 28-0 last Friday. Their season now over, Head Coach Andrew Hrncir goes back to the drawing board.

Badgers versus Seahawks game statistics posted
      The Seahawks soared over the Badgers to advance into the first round of the 2009 football playoffs with a 35-10 victory. Riviera collected 12 first downs to Bishop’s 10. The time of possession tilted to the Badgers, controlling the ball for 24:28 while the Seahawks possession totaled 23:32.

Academy varsity volleyball team earn district 31-A title
      Santa Gertrudis Kingsville Academy’s varsity volleyball team is not a group you want to take lightly. That’s because they went 34-6 overall this season, won the District 31-A title for the fourth consecutive time (with a 10-0 division record) and are currently ranked sixth in the state.
