La Posada Bake-Off set for Dec. 5

The La Posada Bake- Off hosted by Leo Alarcon will be held on Saturday, Dec. 5 at the Helen Kleberg Community Center at 4th and Yoakum Streets.

The Woman’s Club of Kingsville will co-sponsor the event this year as part of their Centennial Celebration. Bobbie Nix will co-chair the event with Mr. Alarcon.

The Bake-Off is open to all who would like to participate. There is an entry fee of $5 per entry.

In addition to the usual two Bake-Off divisions, Cookies and Pan de Polvo, the 2009 event will feature a Pecan division which will have four parts, Cakes, Pies, Candy, and Breads.

All entries in the pecan division must contain pecans.

Each baker will compete in their age division.

The Junior Division is for ages 3 to 13 years. The Senior Division is for ages 18 to 18 years. The Adult Division is for ages 19 years and up.

Ribbons and plaques will be awarded in each bake-off division in each age division. A Best Of Show cash award will also be presented.

All entries must be checked in between 9 and 10 a.m. Judging will be from 10:30 a.m. to 12 noon.

The Awards Ceremony for the Bake-Off will be at 1 p.m. and the public is encouraged to attend.

The Woman’s Club will have their Centennial Cookbook and pecans for sale during the Awards Ceremony.

Entry forms are available at the Chamber of Commerce, King and 11th Streets, or at Kleberg Bank.
