Crocker re-elected to server on Kleberg-Kenedy SWCD board

Vern Crocker at 2009 Awards Banquet with John Prukop Vern Crocker at 2009 Awards Banquet with John Prukop Vern Crocker, resident of Kleberg County near the Vattman community was reelected to serve a four year term on the Kleberg-Kenedy Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) Board of Directors headquartered in Kingsville.

Crocker owns a ranch in Kenedy county and serves as representative of Zone 5 covering Kenedy County. He took the oath of office at the Director’s monthly meeting on Oct. 12.

Vern has served on the Board of Directors representing Kenedy County since its inception in August of 1997. He is a contractor in the area and also operates some hayland in Kleberg County. Crocker continues to serve as secretary on the Board.

“Our board congratulates Vern on his re-election and is pleased to have an experienced, concerned landowner representing conservation matters on the board,” John Prukop, Chairman of the local board said.

The board meets regularly once a month to conduct business. Its five members volunteer their time to represent landowners and operators of agricultural land in the management and improvement of their natural resources.

They approve various applications and plans under different state and federal programs. The board also honors conservation achievers at a banquet held in the spring of the year.

The Kleberg-Kenedy SWCD is part of the South Texas Association of Districts.

Also a State Association of Districts represent all districts in the state at various functions and in the legislative process at Austin and the national level. Two biennial South Texas meetings are held as well as one annual State meeting which is upcoming next week Arlington.

The other directors on the board include: John Prukop, Chairman; Trey Quackenbush, Vice-Chairman; David Schubert, Director; and Ernest Bippert, Jr., Director. Over 1 million acres of land are within the district encompassing Kleberg and Kenedy counties. This area has diverse soils and landscapes with different soil and water concerns.

“I will do my best to represent landowners in my Zone in conserving and protecting their natural resources for now and in the future,” Crocker said.

“Also, the local District along with the Texas State Soil and Water Conservation Board will be hosting a public hearing on Oct. 28 at 10 a.m in Sarita at the museum for annexation of the southwest part of Kenedy County into our District.”

“Again, I want to thank the landowners for having confidence in me and I will try to do my best,” Crocker said.

“We know Vern will do a good job from his past experience,” David Schubert, Director on the Board said.
