Women’s Shelter seeking donations of used clothing
The Women’s Shelter of South Texas is currently taking donations of new or gently used women’s clothing for their new “Passion for Fashion Project” which is focusing on building a “career closet” of clothing suitable for job interviews, court, and other career services.
The Women’s Shelter of South Texas is a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization that supports and empowers individuals affected by family violence and sexual assault through safe shelter and outreach while providing advocacy, education, and resources to create a safe, supportive community.
“We have many clients who are building their lives back up and are in need of dressy professional clothing for job interviews and court appearances,” said Volunteer Coordinator Adriana Armendarez.
In addition to clothing for the workplace, the shelter is also accepting new or gently used medical scrubs, handbags, hair brushes, socks, and undergarments for the clients as well.
“We are trying to provide as much as we can for our clients and help them with as many needs as possible,” Armendarez said.
The clients who receive this clothing are part of a program which serves, not just their physical needs, but emotional needs as well through weekly meetings and services.
Each client receives legal advocacy, counseling, and mentoring which helps build self esteem in a safe, supportive environment that increases their sense of safety and decreases feelings of isolation.
“Our goal is to empower these women to get their life back on track and in order,” Armendarez said. “We appreciate anyone who is willing to help us achieve our purpose.”
If you would like to donate new or gently used clothing and items to the shelter call in advance and make arrangements at the Kingsville Outreach Office at (361) 516-0288.
