New garbage containers and new residential garbage trucks will soon arrive for Kingsville, officials with the city’s solid waste management department said, and the city is implementing new rules to go along with the new containers.

After years of conditioning residents to pair their trash containers with their neighbors so that the garbage truck could pick up two containers at once, the new containers must be picked up individually with the new trucks.

Do not pair a garbage container with another garbage container.

It is important to have a minimum of four to five feet of open space between each garbage container for service, city officials said.

Residents must place garbage containers at the street or curb by 7 a.m. on scheduled days of service only.

Do not overload garbage containers (maximum 200 of trash).

The containers must be removed from public view no later than 8 p.m. on service days, according to a city ordinance.

Do not place garbage containers under trees or close to a parked vehicle in order to insure they are serviced.

All pickup of the new containers will be done at the front of residents’ property, unless residents currently have service in the alley and front a major thoroughfare. Service will be on both sides of the streets.

If a resident’s new garbage container is damaged, missing or stolen at anytime other than between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m. on a scheduled service day, the resident will be charged $90 for a replacement container.

There will be a $90 charge for any container damaged due to a resident’s negligence.

Residents are forbidden to mark or personalize garbage containers because they are city property. Instead, residents are asked to keep a record of the number imprinted on the garbage container.
