(Photo by Carol Gerwick) Earlier this summer the Kleberg County Republican Women decided to participate in an “Americanism Project” in conjunction with the Texas Federation of Republican Women. The project consisted of putting a copy of the U.S. Constitution into the hands of every fifth grade student in Kleberg County and providing the curriculum tools to their social studies teachers to assist them in presenting and teaching the Constitution to the fifth graders, preferably on Constitution Day, Sept. 17. We held a fundraiser for this project, and what a terrific response we have had! Thank you to all the concerned and wonderful citizens who contributed to this worthwhile project! Because of your generosity we were able to provide teacher curriculums and pocket-sized Constitutions to over 800 fifth graders in all the public and private schools in Kleberg County, Bishop, Driscoll, Sarita, Falfurrias, Premont, and Ben Bolt! Many of you shared your resources so that our children could become better-informed citizens–Thank you!

Parents: If your fifth grader brought home his/her pocket-sized copy of our U.S. Constitution with flash cards in the middle of the booklet, ask to see it and check out the flash cards. Your household now has its own copy of the Constitution so that when you hear about someone’s “constitutional rights” or some other reference to whether or not something is “constitutional,” you can check it out for yourselves, especially with the easy index in the back of the booklet.

We are thankful and proud to be citizens of Kleberg County, the great state of Texas, and this greatest of all countries, the United States of America!

Sincerely, Marge Peterson, President Kleberg County Republican Women
