KISD receives recognition for state data accuracy
Sandy Galindo was honored by the Region II Service Center for her outstanding achievement in ensuring 100 percent student data accuracy on Tuesday, Sept. 29.
According to officials at the Region II Service Center, this is the first time KISD has received the yearly award.
“I am so proud of KISD for achieving this honor, and especially grateful to Mrs. Galindo for her hard work and diligence,” Emilio Castro, Superintendent of Schools said.
In school districts across the state, student data accuracy can literally make or break a district.
In Texas, districts use the PID (Personal Identification System) to report student data to the state.
If a student moves to another district and enrolls with a different last name, for example, the state may incorrectly hold the original district accountable for a dropout that never occurred.
One student’s miscoded information in the state database can cause an entire district to receive an “Academically Unacceptable” rating.
In February, 2009, KISD named Galindo as the first PEIMS Specialist to serve Kingsville ISD.
Since then, she has been working diligently behind the scenes to ensure that students entering and leaving the district have accurate data, which helps schools receive academic records faster.
“I am excited to receive the award; my number one priority is to be able to stand behind the data we submit to TEA and certify that it is 100 percent accurate,” Galindo said.
