Professional boxing
Lone Star Promotions will host ‘South Texas Young Guns’ this Friday at J.K. Northway.
Kingsville’s Homer Fonseca will fight in the main event against Austin fighter Fred Gatica with the vacant Texas State Heavyweight Boxing title on the line.
Jon David Charles (Kingsville) faces Juan Serrano (Killeen) in a six round welterweight match. Oscar Gonzalez (Kingsville) will fight Robert Trevino (McAllen) in a four round welterweight match.
San Diego’s Isaac Guzman will step into the ring with Jason Castore (Dallas) in a four round middleweight match. San Benito fighter Abel Fonseca squares off against Benito Fuentes in a four round super middleweight fight.
Jerome Lockette (San Antonio) will face John Swain (Little Rock, Arkansas) in a four round light welterweight match.
The weigh-in for the event will be held at 4 p.m. this Thursday at Salsa’s restaurant and the public is invited. Doors on Friday open at 6 p.m. and the opening fight’s first bell rings at 7:30 p.m.
Varsity volleyball
H.M. King’s varsity, junior varsity and freshman volleyball teams visit Laredo LBJ at 12 p.m., 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. on Saturday.
Riviera-Kaufer’s varsity volleyball team visits Agua Dulce at 5 p.m. on Friday.
Bishop’s varsity volleyball team visits Banquete at 5 p.m. on Friday.
Santa Gertrudis Kingsville Academy’s varsity volleyball team visits Benavides at 4 p.m. on Friday.
Non-varsity football
H.M. King’s junior varsity and freshman football teams host Laredo Cigarroa at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. at MOPAC on Thursday.
Riviera-Kaufer’s junior varsity football team hosts Premont at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. De la Paz Middle School hosts Premont at 5 p.m. on Thursday.
Bishop’s junior varsity and Luehrs Junior High’s football teams have a bye this week.
Cross country
Bishop, H.M. King, Riviera-Kaufer and Santa Gertrudis Kingsville Academy compete at a meet hosted by Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at West Guth Park this Saturday.
