HMK’s Westbrook headed to state
      Senior Nathan Westbrook will wear the black and gold of H.M. King High School when he competes in the 220 lb. division at the Texas High School Power-lifting Association state meet to be held in Abilene on March 27. Westbrook earned his berth to state by placing sixth amongst nine lifters at the Region V event held in Weslaco this past Saturday.

Brahma baseball team wins tourney
      H.M. King High School’s varsity baseball team won a tournament hosted in Alice this past weekend. The Brahmas first defeated Corpus Christi Miller in an opening round game. Ralph Sandoval was the winning pitcher. Luis Garza went two for two from the plate, batted in a run and stole a pair of bases. Mark Trevino went three for four and Ryan Martinez went two for four.

R.I.P. Mr. Olsen
      Former Los Angeles Rams defensive powerhouse Merlin Olsen died last Thursday succumbing in his battle with cancer; Mesothelioma. Olsen was a monster in the National Football League (from 1962-1976) as a member of the legendary ‘Fearsome Foursome’ defensive line which included fellow tough guys Deacon Jones, Lamar Lundy and Rosey Grier.

32-2A All-District girls basketball selections posted
      The Bishop Lady Badgers and Riviera Lady Seahawks basketball squads recently placed several team members to the 32-2A All-District Team for their accomplishments throughout the 2009- 2010 season. Bishop marched into uncharted territory, reaching the regional semi-final round for the first time in school history before losing to the Poth Lady Pirates.
