A benefit concert for leukemia patient Gabriel J. Mata, 36, of Kingsville will be held Friday, July 30 from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. at the Texas Ranch Club, located at 406 N. Sixth St.

Alex J. Mata, 36, Gabriel’s twin brother and president of the Wrangler Crew, and Leo Saenz, owner of the Texas Ranch, have joined forces to raise money for Mata’s hospital expenses.

They are a group of young people who believe in helping people in need.

Their volunteer work ranges from helping fire victims to accompanying local school participants to Special Olympics out of town events.

These young people, who are members of Operation Role Model, a local group, have been praised as inspirational individuals for their good deeds.

The Texas A&M University System Board of Regents approved the creation of a bachelor’s degree in animal-wildlife veterinary technology for Texas A&M University- Kingsville.

Free concert set for school supply effort

A back-to-school free concert with The Cuveralls performing will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the First United Methodist Church parking lot, located in the historic downtown Kingsville area.

Bring a school supply donation and enjoy free food, fun, games, and entertainment.

Now it’s up to the voters to decide on changes to elect commissioners

A petition that calls for a City of Kingsville charter amendment election to change city government representation to a sevenmember, single district city commission was certified Monday by city secretary Edna Lopez.

The issue will now go on the Nov. 2 ballot.
